Essential Information Frequently Asked Questions |
Nestling between the Mediterranean, the Black Sea, and The Aegean, Turkey represents an exciting blend of European and Asian cultures and lifestyles. Once the centre of the Ottoman empire, Turkey is proud of her 10,000 year old heritage and has a rich history in its ancient buildings and monuments throughout all 7 regions. The climate in Turkey varies quite considerably, from the Black Sea region where luscious vegetation- covered mountain ranges run along the coastline, to the Mediterranean coast with its abundance of flowers, its towns and Amanos mountain ranges. The coastlines tend to be cooler but once across the mountains, the interior plains and plateaus enjoy extremely hot summers and mild to cold winters with moderate rainfall. There are over 8,000 km of attractive sandy beaches dotted around the country, the clear blue waters of the Mediterranean contrast with the deeper blue of the Aegean and the darker waters of the Black Sea. Ankara is the capital of Turkey with a population of 4 million, although Istanbul in the Mamara region is the most densely populated city at 10 million. The total population is 73 million, the currency is the New Turkish Lira and the local time is GMT + 2 hours. The major religion is Islam and the national language is Turkish, although English is fairly widely spoken throughout most regions. Many tourists have visited Turkey, but few have discovered the joys and delights of the country outside the resorts. The individual make up and identity of each of the 7 regions is different, but mountains, beaches and waters seem common to all coastal parts, with the interior having vast National Parks and a fascinating variety of plants and wildlife. Turkey is a beautiful country, has an excellent climate and represents an eclectic mix of European and Asian culture. It has some of the finest foods, again a mix of European and Asian influences and is far less 'westernised' than Spain for example. Like Northern Cyprus it's relatively low property prices combined with a lower cost of living make it an ideal country to purchase in. Aklan have a wide experience of selected areas in Turkey and a first class selection of property to choose from. So if you're considering Turkey, allow us to show you its true magic. |
